How to Remind Yourself That You Have Neck Pain

Do you spend most of your day sitting in front of the computer? Do you wake up with neck pain every morning? If so, it is time to take a break and do some stretches. I have compiled a list of my favorite reminders for when I feel neck pain coming on because sometimes it can be hard to remember that what you are doing is causing discomfort.

1. Get a neck pillow for your car, office chair, and bed.

Your neck does not have to hurt while you are driving, working at your desk, or sleeping! By using a neck pillow for these activities, it will remind you that if you move in certain ways then this can lead to pain. My favorite pillows are the ones made by Fellowes because they support my head without putting too much pressure on my lower back which I sometimes experience when I use other pillows.

One of them is called “The Traveler” and it has one side with memory foam so that there is extra softness where needed most. Another one of their options is “The Brace-Foam”. It is contoured specifically for people who need added cervical support due to injury/pain around the spine area.

2. Use ice packs on the back of your neck to reduce swelling


Swollen muscles and joints can be painful so try using ice packs to reduce the inflammation. It is best to use them for 15-20 minutes at a time, but you should check with your doctor before trying this method because some people need longer or shorter times depending on their injury/pain level. To create an ice pack, wrap crushed ice cubes in a washcloth or paper towel then apply it over the affected area.

I like to keep a few reusable gel packs in my freezer as well because they stay cold for much longer than normal ice does! They are also convenient because I do not have to make sure that there is enough water inside of them before applying them since they already come pre-frozen from the store where I purchased them.

One of my favorite brands is Koo-Care because they contain non-toxic, medical grade gel that remains colder for longer than other products I have used in the past! It will not leak out if it gets punctured which is something I experienced with another brand when one of my children accidentally stepped on it while playing around me.

3. Place a rolled towel or heating pad on top of your shoulders to help with stiffness

A heating pad or towel placed on top of your shoulders can help loosen up the muscles and increase circulation to reduce pain/stiffness that you might be experiencing as well as improving range of motion around those areas. I like to use a rolled hand towel for this because it is small enough to fit over my shoulders without being too bulky so that

I do not feel uncomfortable while also providing just the right amount of pressure when applied correctly. You can experiment with different sized towels and shapes if needed but make sure they are not hot before placing them down! A good rule-of-thumb is that if you cannot hold onto something for more than two seconds then it might be too warm, which could cause burns instead of relief from stiffness and pain.

4. Stretch out your neck by rotating it from side-to-side and front-to-back

A quick and easy way to stretch out your neck is by rotating it from side-to-side and front-to-back in order to improve range of motion. You should do this slowly, making sure that you are not causing yourself more pain or discomfort while also being gentle with the movements so they are effective at increasing movement around the affected areas.

I recommend doing about five rotations in each direction per day until your symptoms begin improving since there is no exact number needed for effectiveness!

You can rotate your neck slowly either standing up or sitting down depending on where you are when experiencing stiffness/pain levels after taking some time off work due to injury/pain. Make sure that you are not forcing any extra strain onto yourself during these movements, but also being gentle with the rotations so that they are effective at increasing range of motion around your injury/pain.

I recommend doing about five rotations in each direction per day until symptoms begin improving since there is no exact number needed for effectiveness!

5. Take ibuprofen as directed for inflammation and pain relief

Taking ibuprofen, also known as Advil or Motrin depending on the brand you use, can help to reduce inflammation and pain that has built up around your neck. You should always follow directions when taking medication in order to avoid any complications so be sure not to take more than is recommended!

I recommend using a pill cutter if needed since this will cut down on how much you need to take every day which could potentially cause side effects over time.

Do not exceed directions for taking ibuprofen/Advil even if they are only temporary relief from stiffness/pain levels because there could be serious consequences with long-term usage of these medications! Using a pill cutter may make it easier to cut pills into smaller portions rather than taking several pills at once, which can help with reducing long-term side effects.

-Drink at least 60 ounces of water every day which will help thin out your blood, increase vascularity (flow), and keep organs healthy including kidneys that filter through toxins in our body naturally everyday!

-If you’re on a low salt diet for health reasons then try putting pink Himalayan sea salt into some warm filtered water with lemon juice squeezed inside to give it extra minerals like potassium which helps balance sodium levels so swelling won’t be as bad sometimes.
